Contact your legislators (lawmakers)
It is important to communicate your views to your legislators. Arizona is divided into Districts. Each District has one State Senator and two Representitives in the House. These are the three key people you need to
focus your attention on. A well written letter, delivered by e-mail and/or US Mail is most effective. A phone call is also good, but you are not likely to actually get to talk to the lawmaker. That's OK, you may get
lucky and catch one at a lull in the action. They really are very busy folks down there. The person that does answer the phone is probably more powerful, and senior to, the lawmaker. Talk to this person. They have
the ear of the lawmaker, better than you know!
But they DO WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU. Really, they do. They are so busy, communication from constituents is measured in volume first, content second and special interest last (unless you are a big $ contributer, of
course). This is very true, ask any of them.
Anyway, following is a short paragraph you can cut and paste into a new e-mail to your representatives, or a word processor to print and mail. Add your own thoughts also, people DO read them. Well written, polite
letters are seen. They work. The link will take you to the Arizona Legislature site, there is a clickable map so you can find your district. Click on your District and you will be given the e-mail address, phone and
names of the three people you need to contact, your State Senator and two representatives to the House.
Please do it now!

Dear ____________,
I am writing today to express my support of SB 1519, a measure to deregulate Industrial Hemp and conduct a research project regarding production in Arizona.
I have studied this issue at length and I urge you to do so also. There are many resources available on the Internet that reveal the details of this remarkable crop. We owe it to our future generations who will not
have the timber and petroleum resources we have come to depend on in virtually every aspect of our daily lives.
Our national security is at stake here, with our dependence on foreign oil at nearly 60%, I feel our nation is vulnerable to catastrophic upheavals related to energy supply, our water, air and rural communities and
local sustainability of the lifestyle my family has come to enjoy.
These alternative technologies must be researched and developed and this will require cooperation among many parties, including existing industrial infrastructure. We do not have time to waste on draconian
prohibition policy. We stand ready and willing to work with the Law Enforcement community with models of successful Industrial Hemp programs from over 25 other nations, including our neighbor to the north, Canada.
Please see through the "Drug War" paranoia and rhetoric and give this issue the hearing it deserves.
Sincerely,
Your Name
