Arizona State Representative Dean Cooley Pro-Hemp
The following letter was sent on Mr. Cooley's letterhead to DEA Administrator Donnie R. Marshall October 20,
2000:
"Dear Mr. Marshall:
This letter is to let you know that I oppose the DEA's proposal to ban certain hemp products. Hemp is a valuable industrial crop,
which could be used to strengthen our economy, as well as helping our environment. Our Arizona farmers could use another cash crop to help stabilize their operations.
Industry would locate here in Arizona where hemp could be grown economically. Hemp fibers and seeds can be used to produce many
things including textiles, paper, paint, fuel, particleboard, rope, cosmetics and food. It has little or no tetrahydrocannabinol.
Because hemp has a natural resistance to pests it can be grown without the use of pesticides. This is also better for our environment.
Please reconsider banning this product until further investigating is completed on the benefits of this hemp.
We want to thank Mr. Cooley for having the courage and fortitude to take a position
regarding this important issue. Perhaps more candidates will follow his, Senator Hamilton's and Congressional Candidate Jankowski's lead and take a public position soon! You can help, contact your
representatives, ask them to take a position! Visit the voter guide, learn who is pro-hemp, vote accordingly.
